So, for a while the names Pink Siifu and Fly Anakin have — no pun intended — flown throughout my inbox and timeline. Blame a myriad of factors — the roni, having way too much on my plate, the Clippers — for it, but I finally decided to give their debut album, FlySiifu’s, a spin.
I’m glad I did, too, as the eclectic pair really put out something that’s equal parts nostalgic and forward-thinking. A loose concept album about a fictional record store owned by the two artists, Pink and Fly invite the likes of Madlib, Jay Versace, $ILKMONEY, Ohbliv, Awhlee, Animoss and others to assist them throughout the 22-song (it’s not as long as it suggests) project. The project, without trying to intentionally/unintentionally place lofty aspirations on anything, gives me Jaylibfeels (which is definitely a great thing, in this writer’s eyes).
Take a listen to the album below. You may enjoy it as much as I have so far.
