blame it on Meka December 15, 2020

Nearly six years ago to this day Bobby Shmurda, Rowdy Rebel, and 13 other members of their GS9 crew got arrested during a recording session in NYC’s Quad Studios. Bobby himself faced a litany of charges — one count of conspiracy in the second degree, three counts of conspiracy in the fourth degree, one count of reckless endangerment, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and one count of criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree — and faced anywhere from eight to 25 years in prison. Bobby would then get another four sentence, stemming from a contraband case in which his girlfriend smuggled a homemade knife to him during a 2015 visit to Rikers Island.

However, he accepted a plea deal in 2016 and received seven years (with credit for two years already served). As it turns out, Bobby took the deal so that his friend, Rowdy Rebel, could get less.

Meanwhile, Rowdy — née Chad Marshall — had caught his own fair share of charges, including a more serious one for attempted murder (it was reported that he was “allegedly” involved in a shooting, then performed at Barclays the same night while wearing the same clothes). However, thanks to Bobby’s plea deal his time was cut short, and now Rebel has finally been released from prison today (Dec. 15) after spending six years inside.

Although incarcerated, Rebel kept somewhat busy musically, recently appearing on Pop Smoke’s “Make It Rain.”

Meanwhile, Bobby is scheduled to return home from his own prison sentence sometime in 2021.
