Andrew Garfield appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Monday to promote his upcoming film, The Eyes of Tammy Faye—which is probably good—but let’s get right to it. What does he have to say about those leaked images of himself on the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home?
“I’ve heard about it. And I did see it,” Garfield confessed. “It’s a PhotoShop … I’m trying to manage expectations.” He said if Marvel wanted to get him involved in the film “at this late, late stage,” he’s “sitting here in my tracksuit.”
While we’ll let you find those leaks on your own, let’s just say Garfield should’ve gone with the deep fake defense due to this recent bit of leaked footage.
The former Spider-Man first addressed casting rumors in May on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused Podcast. “It’s so crazy. Dude, it’s f***ing hilarious to me,” he said. “I do have this Twitter account and I see how often Spider-Man is trending and it’s people freaking out about a thing. I wish I could be able to speak to everyone and just say, ‘I recommend that you chill.”
Garfield claimed at the time that he hadn’t been contacted by Marvel, but later said, “Maybe they’re going to call me and say, ‘Hey, people want this!’ Maybe it’s a market research thing…”
Garfield denied his rumored attachment to the film again in an interview with Variety, and admitted that regardless of what he says going forward, it will not dissuade fans of the franchise from believing whatever they want to believe.
“But it’s important for me to say on the record that this is not something I’m aware I am involved in,” he said. “But I know I’m not going to be able to say anything that will convince anyone that I don’t know what’s happening. No matter what I say, I’m fucked. It’s either going to be really disappointing for people or it’s going to be really exciting.”
