Georgia Woman Arrested and Charged After Allegedly Throwing Injured Puppy Into Ocean

A Georgia woman was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals Tuesday after she allegedly threw an injured puppy into the ocean earlier this month, ABC News reports. 

Candy Selena Marban was questioned by Tybee Island Police on Sept. 12 after responding to a call and discovering a puppy in the sand nursing a clear issue with its leg. “The original call was that she was throwing the dog into the water,” Tybee Island police Lt. Emory Randolph said. “Some witnesses were very upset about that.” 

Marban told authorities the dog suffered the injury a week prior, claiming she couldn’t afford to see a veterinarian. She was given a citation for violating a city cruelty to animals ordinance, and the puppy was taken to undergo emergency medical treatment. When doctors determined that the only course of action was to euthanize the puppy due to the severity of the injury, a warrant was issued for her arrest on the elevated charge of aggravated cruelty to animals. 

Authorities circulated a photo of Marban and the puppy on Facebook Monday, which garnered over 2,000 shares in less than 24 hours. She was nabbed the very next day.
