As more information about The Weeknd’s upcoming HBO drama series The Idol comes to light, it has just been revealed that Lily-Rose Depp will be joining the artist as one of the show’s leads.

According to Deadline, The Idol is reportedly going to center around a “female pop singer who starts a romance with an enigmatic L.A. club owner who is the leader of a secret cult.” While HBO has yet to confirm the roles of any actors yet, it is believed that Weeknd will be playing the club owner, and Depp the female pop singer. The artist created the series alongside Euphoria originator Sam Levinson.

Joseph Epstein is the writer and showrunner for The Idol, and The Weeknd’s manager Wassim “Sal” Slaiby and creative director La Mar C. Taylor will co-executive produce it.

Along with the new show, The Weeknd spoke to The Hollywood Reporter a month ago about working on the series and his next album simultaneously.

“Yeah, I’m finishing the new album right now,” he said in the interview. “It should be done by the end of this month and we’re just kind of figuring out when to put it out. It’s been really cool because I’m working on this album this summer simultaneously with the writer’s room for the new TV show. So, I’ve been kind of going back and forth from finishing the album and pending up the show that we’re going to start shooting soon. It’s been quite a summer.”

The Idol has yet to receive any official trailer or release date.
