Tom Hardy Asked Little Simz To Remix “Venom” For The ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ Soundtrack

Venom: Let There Be Carnage—the Venom sequel starring Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson—has hit cinemas, and for UK rap fans, there’s an added treat in there. North London rapper Little Simz, who just released one of the best albums of the year in Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, makes an appearance on the soundtrack with a reworking of a 2019 track, also called “Venom”.

It’s not the first time the track has been featured on a soundtrack. The original version, which first appeared on 2019’s GREY Area, was selected to appear on the soundtrack for the latest series of Top Boy. According to an Uproxx interview with director Andy Serkis, it was famed UK rap fan Tom Hardy who suggested the track and ultimately made it all happen.

Explaining how it came together, Serkis said: “She actually had made a song, unbeknownst to her, called ‘Venom’ that connected very much with the first movie. And so Tom got in touch with her and that song became sort of the focus [of the scene].”

What’s more, Simz herself also makes an appearance in the film, performing on stage for a brief cameo with the titular hero by her side. 

Although the movie, which Hardy and Serkis co-wrote together, has received mixed reviews so far, it enjoyed the biggest opening weekend of the pandemic era, bringing in a total of $103.9million worldwide.

Regardless, it’s a big look for Simz who’s wrapping up the UK leg of her album tour this year before she heads out to Europe and then North America in 2022. For tickets and more info, head here.
