Former president Donald Trump, who is apparently still reeling from Twitter’s decision to ban him earlier this year, among other things, has announced plans to launch a social media platform called “Truth Social” through the new company Trump Media and Technology Group.
The folks over at Truth Social are hoping to launch at the top of 2022, Deadline reports. A beta version will be available starting next month. The forthcoming social media service aims to “create a rival to the liberal media consortium and fight back against the Big Tech companies of Silicon Valley, which have used their unilateral power to silence opposing voices in America,” a press release said.
“I created Truth Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech,” the reality television star said.
But that’s not all, Trump is also planning on launching a subscription video service called “TMTG+” that will have “non-woke” content.
An official from Trump’s administration perviously told Politico that Trump went “ballistic” and was “scrambling to figure out” his options after being kicked off the platform, as the social media company said at the time, “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”
Twitter was of course referring to the failed insurrection of January 6 in which far-right pro-Trump supporters violently stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to invalidate the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election.
“After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” Twitter said at the time. “In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action.”
Trump was also suspended from Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
