It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Berner, but that’s not without reason. Back in October, the rapper-slash-cannabis guru revealed to the world that he’d been diagnosed with cancer. Undergoing a successful surgery and on the road to recovery, he’s now getting back to music with the release of his new album, GOTTI.
“Music is medicine,” Berner told Variety. “The day I found out I had cancer, I called my best friend Cozmo and told him to book a studio and produce the best body of work we have ever created from scratc. I then flew out to sit with the John Gotti family to get their blessing. I’ve been focused on Gotti and am so blessed to have had a mission to keep my mind busy while fighting cancer. I poured everything into this album energy wise.”
Coming in at 19 tracks, the album boasts a fantastic guest list with features from Nas, Jadakiss, Rick Ross, Conway the Machine, Benny the Butcher, Styles P, Future, Ty Dolla $ign, Wiz Khalifa, and more. There’s also some never-before-heard federal trial tapes of Gotti, that were given to Berner with permission from the the Mafia don’s family.
