Ahead of the March release of HBO’s upcoming Adam McKay-produced series on the 1980s Showtime Lakers, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, TMZ caught up with Magic Johnson to hear his thoughts on the show.

When asked if he’s excited to watch the forthcoming series, Magic, who played 13 seasons for the Lakers (1979-91) and led them to five NBA championships, said: “Hmm, no. I’m not looking forward to it. I’ll leave it at that.”

Magic went on to say that he’s instead looking forward to a few other upcoming series that he’s involved with.

“We got different shows coming out,” Magic explained. “I got one, then you got Jeanie Buss got one on Showtime coming out. Those are the ones I’m looking forward to.”

Set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in March 2022, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty stars John C. Reilly as Lakers team owner Jerry Buss, Jason Clarke as Jerry West, Jason Segel as Paul Westhead, Sally Field as Jessie Buss, Adrien Brody as Pat Riley, Solomon Hughes as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Rob Morgan as Earvin Johnson Sr., and many more.

McKay serves as an executive producer and directed the pilot episode of the limited series, which is based on Jeff Pearlman’s book, Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s. Max Borenstein is the co-writer and showrunner of the series, while Jim Hecht co-wrote the story.
