An Ohio man fatally shot his 16-year-old daughter in their family garage after he thought she was an intruder, NBC News reports.

Janae Hairston died at a hospital in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, Dec. 29 an hour after her father shot her at their home. During the 911 call, the girl’s mother said the father “accidentally” shot their daughter. “My husband made a mistake and shot her because he thought she was an intruder,” she said in the 8-minute call. “She was in our garage and my husband just didn’t know what was going on.” In the background, a man can be heard repeating “breathe, baby.”

Six minutes after the call, police arrived at the scene. In a tweet, the Columbus Division of Police said that no charges have been filed in the shooting. Both parents expressed confusion as to what Hairston was doing in the garage during the call. According to the Columbus Dispatch, detectives are still investigating the shooting.

Earlier this week, a North Carolina teenager was accidentally shot in the head by his police officer father. The teen was hospitalized following the shooting, and remains in critical condition as of Wednesday. As a result of the incident, the unidentified officer has been placed on administrative leave.

“The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the incident and the Jacksonville Police Department is fully cooperating with their investigation,” Investigative Services Supervisor Lt. Christopher Funcke told WNCT. “We ask that our community members keep our employee and their family in their thoughts and prayers at this time.”
