School Shooting in Minnesota Leaves 1 Student Dead, Another Injured

One student is dead and another is injured after a shooting that took place at the South Education Center in Richfield, Minnesota Tuesday afternoon.

According to CNN, officers arrived at the campus to find two students shot on the sidewalk outside of the school. Both were rushed to the hospital where one of the students died from their wounds. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

Richfield superintendent Sandra Lewandowski released a statement to the community applauding the first responders who tried to help the students in the wake of this tragedy.

“There are no words to describe the bravery exhibited by our staff at SEC and local authorities today,” Lewandowski said. “No one should ever have to respond to a tragedy like this and we commit to supporting staff, students, and family well-being as they recover from this incident.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also took to social media to comment on the shooting and said that he is working with local law enforcement to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, officers are currently asking for tips on who the culprit of the shooting might be.

“We strongly encourage anyone with information regarding this incident to call the tip line at 1-888-ATF-TIPS,” Police Chief Jay Henthorne said during a news conference. “Our hearts are with the families, students, and the community impacted by this horrendous and tragic event.”
