With Jackass Forever hitting theaters this Friday after a number of pandemic-spurred delays, original franchise star Steve-O is going deep on his decades-long career in a new interview.

Speaking with GQ for a new cover story feature out this week, the Wild Ride! host reflected on his disciplined path to sobriety and how surprised he was when plans for a new Jackass sequel first came together. Also tucked into the interview is some insight from the recent Hot Ones guest on how his early interest in making skate videos ultimately led him to become the Jackass star fans know today.

But first, Steve-O enrolled as a student at the University of Miami, only to later be met with the news that his grades meant he would technically remain a freshman even in his sophomore year. According to Steve-O, who had previously moved in with “a girl he was seeing” at the time but was dumped when the grades-related news came in, the end of this relationship proved crucial on his journey.

“I was so heartbroken and I wanted her to be worried about me,” Steve-O, who also noted that he “could not keep a job” when he was younger and solely loved “playing with video cameras,” recalled. “The stunts were initially an exercise in trying to make that girl worried that I was going to die.”

For the full interview, head here. Steve-O also sat down with the GQ team for an episode of the style-focused publication’s “10 Things” series. Catch that above.

The release of Jackass Forever is further commemorated this week with the launch of a new capsule collection from the Los Angeles-based brand Babylon. A notable inclusion in the new collection, the lookbook for which was photographed by Atiba Jefferson, is a beanie emblazoned with the should-be-familiar-to-fans phrase “Keep God Out of California.”

Get a closer look at select pieces from the full capsule below via Jefferson-shot photos of Steve-O, Johnny Knoxville, Jasper, and more at the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel.
