Mother of Accused Oxford High School Shooter Texted Son About ‘New Gun’ Day Before Shooting

Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of the teenager accused of fatally shooting four students at Michigan’s Oxford High School last November, sent her son a text message asking if he had shown teachers a “pic of your new gun.”

CBS News reports the message was among the series of texts Oakland County prosecutors revealed in court on Tuesday. Jennifer and her husband, James, appeared for a hearing to determine whether the two will face trial in connection with the mass shooting that killed four students and injured several others on Nov. 30.

“Seriously- Looking up bullets in school,” Jennifer Crumbley wrote in one message, to which her son, Ethan, replied, “Oh yeah. I already went to the office for that. All I did was look up a certain caliber at the end of class because I was curious. Completely harmless.”

From there, Jennifer asked her son if he showed administrators a photo of his “new gun.”

“Did you at least show them a pic of your new gun?” Jennifer asked. “No I didn’t show them a pic. My God,” Ethan wrote back.

Back in December, Jennifer and her husband, James, pleaded not guilty to each of the four counts of involuntary manslaughter charges brought against them in connection with the mass shooting. Both parents face up to 60 years in prison and $30,000 in fines if convicted.

Ethan has pleaded not guilty to charges including four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to murder, 12 counts of possession of a firearm, and one count of terrorism. The 15-year-old was arrested and charged as an adult following the shooting.
