Google PlayFour students from Aragon Middle School in Houston, Texas were taken into police custody after they were allegedly captured on video attacking a baseball coach from a neighboring high school.
As reported by KPRC, Michael Shott, the assistant baseball coach at Langham Creek High School, was seen on video being chased and assaulted by multiple kids after he reportedly told the students they couldn’t ride their dirt bikes in the school’s practice area. He allegedly suffered a broken arm from the attack.
“The incident that took place is extremely unacceptable and will be disciplined according to the CFISD Student Code of Conduct,” Langham Creek High School Principal Jose Martinez wrote in a letter to families on Thursday. Martinez condemned the behavior and confirmed the students had been taken into custody while the Cy-Fair Independent School District further investigated the incident. The letter also noted violent threats had been made against the school following the students’ arrests, and that additional security measures would be in place as a result.
Langham Creek sophomore Alena Gonzales told KPRC she believed the threats came from friends of the students in custody. ”Later that day, they got arrested and their older friends threatened to shoot up our school,” she told the outlet.
Another local outlet, ABC 13, spoke with the coach’s mother Peggy Shott, who said Michael is doing fine and reaffirmed her son was just trying to do his job.
“The reason it happened to him was because he was doing his job,” she said. “He stopped the kids. Well, there was only one kid at first. The reason the others came back is because they didn’t like him stopping them.”
The threats that emerged against the school as a result of the arrests spurred some worried parents to pull their students from classes entirely on Friday.
“I think the world is crazy and parents need to control their kids more,” one parent told KHOU 11 in the video above. “Period. I think so, cause if you raise your children right they shouldn’t be doing this crap.”
