Uma Thurman Provides Update on Long-Awaited ‘Kill Bill Vol. 3’

In the nearly 18 years since Kill Bill: Vol. 2 was released in theaters, there has been intermittent dialogue about a third installment, with director Quentin Tarantino revisiting the topic of discussion last year, saying, “Why not?,” when asked if it could be his next film.

Uma Thurman, who played the Bride, or Beatrix Kiddo for the initiated, shared the devastating news that we are still a long ways away from Vol. 3. “I can’t really tell you anything about it,” Thurman said on The Jess Cagle Show for SiriusXM. “I mean it has been discussed over the years. There was real thought about it happening, but very long ago. I don’t see it as immediately on the horizon.”

Once upon a time—no pun intended—Tarantino floated the idea of Vol. 3 being centered around Nikki, the daughter of Vernita Green, played by Vivica A. Fox, getting revenge on the Bride for killing her mother. In Vol. 1, Kiddo told Nikki that she didn’t intend to kill Green in front of her, but she had it coming, adding, “When you grow up, if you still feel raw about it, I’ll be waiting.”

Tarantino most recently seemed intrigued by the prospect of casting Thurman’s own daughter, Maya Hawke, to play Kiddo’s daughter in Vol. 3. “I think it’s just revisiting the characters 20 years later and just imagining the Bride and her daughter, Bebe, having 20 years of peace, and then that peace is shattered,” he said on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. “And now the Bride and Bebe are on the run and just the idea of being able to cast Uma and cast her daughter Maya in the thing would be fucking exciting.”

Maya had a memorable appearance in Tarantino’s latest film, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, playing one of the Manson girls who had second thoughts about carrying out his mission at the right time. She also starred in Netflix’s Stranger Things and Fear Street Part One: 1994.
