Believe It or Not, Rappers Struggle Too

Let’s face it, living in the spotlight is hard, especially when you’re a burgeoning, need-to-know artist in today’s world. Your movements are constantly monitored, your social media is always under scrutiny, and your work better speak (highly of) itself. And if it doesn’t? Then you better have alligator-made, one-hundred percent real leather, tightrope tough skin—because cancel culture is real. Just think about any recent chaos you’ve seen take over your timelines (you know who what we mean). Thankfully, some entertainers, like New Jersey rapper Topaz Jones, have developed routines and established core support systems to help keep themselves safe from all the chaos and noise.

In 2016, Jones dropped his debut album, Arcade, which introduced fans to his eclectic, detailed rhyme schemes. That allowed audiences to get to know the man fueled by rap, funk, and soul. But it wasn’t until Jones’ sophomore release, a visual album titled Don’t Go Tellin’ Your Momma, that he finally made the choice to fully open up and share pieces of his life’s journey through his music, beginning with the project’s opening artwork. But making the decision to invite fans into his family story wasn’t so easy.
