HBO is addressing the rumors that their hit teen drama series Euphoria had “multiple complaints made to SAG-AFTRA” regarding a toxic production environment while making its latest season, Variety reports.

The network released a statement on Friday saying that the safety of the cast and crew is their top priority, and that no “formal inquires” were ever raised.

“The well-being of cast and crew on our productions is always a top priority,” the statement, which was acquired by Variety, reads. “The production was in full compliance with all safety guidelines and guild protocols. It’s not uncommon for drama series to have complex shoots, and COVID protocols add an additional layer. We maintain an open line of communication with all the guilds, including SAG-AFTRA. There were never any formal inquiries raised.”

Talk originally began swirling of drama on set last month when The Daily Beast reported that there had been several complaints from background actors about production not providing meals on time and refusing to let them use the bathroom. Talk of excessively long shoot times also surfaced.

Additionally, the publication cited a supposed rift onset between Euphoria director Sam Levinson and actress Barbie Ferreira, who plays the character Kat. Production sources told the outlet that Ferreira had walked off set twice during the making of Season 2 because she disagreed with the direction of her character. Ferreira’s screentime was also notably cut short this season, with many highlighting the feud between her and the director being the reason why.

Nonetheless, Euphoria still became HBO’s second most-watched series, sitting only behind Game of Thrones. The Season 2 finale, which aired last Sunday, momentarily crashed HBO Max, and the show has been renewed for a third season.
