Google PlayD.L. Hughley has had enough of Ye’s Instagram behavior.
The longtime radio host and comedian chopped it up with DJ Vlad this past week, and during their discussion he touched on his thoughts on the artist formerly known as Kanye West, and Instagram posts he’s made about his now-ex wife Kim Kardashian—including sharing their text messages and memes inspired by their divorce. His comments come as KISS’ Gene Simmons said there’s something “clinically wrong” with Ye, and that sometimes people need a “good bitch slap.”
“I think that I’ve watched too many times when things like that happened and a woman or somebody is not believed. And then things escalate,” Hughley said. “He is stalking her. You can think it’s cute. If it was my daughter, I’d do something about it. I don’t think it’s funny. I think that you can’t write a beat so good that you get to do these things. And society laughs it off because they say, ‘Well, she’s showing her ass all the time and he’s this and he’s that.’”
Hughley continued, sharing that he thinks the “difference between him and a restraining order is about 20 hits and a couple of hundred million dollars,” and that there’s no point to bringing Kim’s new boyfriend Pete Davidson into the conversation, as Ye has. As he explained, if you’re “threatening the dude that’s fucking your woman, all he gonna do is fuck her harder.”
“I would want my family [together], I understand that, too,” Hughley said. “But if you want your family, stop doing the shit you did that made her leave. How about take your medicine. All that wild shit you were doing that got her, be different. Stop doing the crazy shit that exhausted her. It’s so important, when a woman gets in her 40s and you get in your 40s, all that shit that was fun is exhausting.”
Hughley, who has previously compared Ye to former President Donald Trump, has opened up about his feelings on the creative in the past. In 2020, he told Vlad that Ye is the “worst fucking kind of human being,” and that both he and Trump were “narcissists, neither of them read, and I’ve seen both of their wives naked.”
In other interview clips from his latest sit-down with Vlad, Hughley made reference to Ye’s mental health when he said that “if Kanye has all those voices in his head, one of them should tell him to shut the fuck up.” Hughley also spoke on what it’s like to make a mistake in a relationship and want to make it right, and that at that point, all you’re in control of is “the vehicle it leaves in.”
“You might get in your car and intend to get to the airport,” he said. “What happens to you ain’t up to you. It’s other situations: drivers, lights, other circumstances. But I’ll say this. I never really apologized for telling jokes or trying to be ironic. But I will apologize if I made a judgmental observation and it was off or hurtful.”
