Cardi B Exits Comedy Film ‘Assisted Living’ One Week Before Start of Production

Deadline has learned that the production company Paramount Players shelved the comedy film Assisted Living after Cardi B stepped away one week before production was scheduled to begin.

Even though she had small parts in Hustlers and F9, Assisted Living would have been Cardi’s first leading role in a movie. She allegedly pulled out due to being overextended. She landed the role of Amber, a small-time crook who finds herself on the run after being wrongly accused of a crime. With nowhere to turn and in need of time to prove her innocence, she decides to disguise herself as an elderly woman and live in her estranged grandmother’s nursing home.

The movie is based on a spec script penned by Kay Oyegun, whose previous writing credits include This Is Us and Queen Sugar. According to Deadline, the cast and crew were told the film was at least being temporarily scratched. While there was initial speculation that Cardi’s last-minute departure could result in the studio taking legal action, sources suggest the project could still see the light of day.

Over the last few months, Cardi became the first-ever creative director in residence for Playboy, and partnered with Starco Brands to help launch their alcoholic whipped cream Whipshots. She also gave birth to her second child with husband Offset in September.

On Wednesday, Cardi provided an up-close photo of her 6-month-old son, writing, “That’s all y’all will get.”
