Google PlayWith a new album on the horizon tentatively titled Book 1, Grimes fans are soon set to enjoy another sonic feast. And in a new interview discussing the upcoming “space opera,” the acclaimed Art Angels crafter has—perhaps inadvertently—revealed that she and Elon Musk recently welcomed a second child together.
When speaking with Vanity Fair for a cover story feature, out Thursday, Grimes was asked if she has “another baby” in her life after writer Devin Gordon picked up on sounds in the house that would signal such a presence. At first, Grimes stated that she’s “not at liberty to speak on these things,” instead shifting the talk to her and Elon’s previous child together, X Æ A-12 (a.k.a. X).
Among the intended references featured in Y’s name are Grimes’ personal favorite Lord of the Rings character, Galadriel. The child was born in December, which (the new piece notes) is notably around the same time that Grimes made the choice to relocate to Austin, Texas in a “full time” capacity.
The full interview is available here and also includes some insight on Book 1, the narrative of which is set in the distant future and partially inspired by simulation-based discussions with Musk, as well as remarks from Grimes addressing those who have argued that she’s undergone a “class traitor” transformation in recent years.
“I was deeply from the far left and I converted to being essentially a capitalist Democrat,” Grimes said. “A lot of people are understandably upset.”
The upcoming Book 1, expected this year, follows 2020’s well-received Miss Anthropocene. In January of last year, the latter—featuring the singles “Violence” and “Delete Forever”—was revisited via a Rave Edition release.
