Boyfriend Sentenced in Murder of Fort Valley State University Student Anitra Gunn

Demarcus D. Little, who was the boyfriend of the Fort Valley State University student that disappeared on Valentine’s Day 2020, was found guilty of murder.

WSB-TV reports Little, 24, an Army sergeant based at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia, was convicted on Tuesday with felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with the Feb. 2020 death of his girlfriend, Anitra Gunn.

Although Little was acquitted of a malice murder charge, he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole on the felony murder charge by Judge Connie Williford. The verdict was announced after seven days of testimony and three hours of deliberation.

The news arrives more than two years after Anitra Gunn, 23, was found dead in Crawford County after she was reported missing. Little, who prosecutors believed strangled Gunn to death on Feb. 14, 2020, was eventually arrested in connection with her death.

Earlier this week, Little’s friend Jaivon Abron testified against him and told the jury that Little confessed that he killed Gunn in an act of rage.

According to Abron, Little professed his love to Gunn on Valentine’s Day, but became enraged when Gunn allegedly laughed in his face. “I don’t know what happened,” Little allegedly told Abron, claiming that he blacked out and hit her before grabbing her and choking her.

Little then allegedly told Abron that he “had to get rid of her,” and dumped Gunn’s body in the woods.

Assistant DA Neil Halvorson asked the judge to impose the maximum sentence against Little.

“Anitra Gunn will never be able to breathe air on this Earth again. The appropriate sentence is that Demarcus Little never be able to breathe free air for the rest of his life,” Halvorson told the court.
