Google PlayChris Rock’s brother, Tony Rock, is the latest to share some public thoughts on Will Smith’s Oscars slap.
As part of his usual 20 Questions Tuesday festivities, Tony was met with a number of inquiries related to the Oscar-winning King Richard actor having slapped the comedian at the 2022 Oscars this past Sunday. As has been stated and restated in a slew of articles since, the slap was preceded by Chris telling a G.I. Jane joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. Will apologized to the Academy in his acceptance speech later that evening, then apologized to Chris in an extended statement shared to Instagram on Monday.
Asked Tuesday night how he felt about “the Oscar fiasco,” Tony Rock—who, like Chris, is a comedian—said it was “foul.” He also questioned those who presented him with questions that posited the slap as having been staged (“Fake for what?”) and offered a simple “no” when asked if he approved of Will’s aforementioned IG apology.
Elsewhere, Tony suggested that he will have a lengthier response to the situation soon and declined to dive into any speculation about Academy-related responses moving forward. In the meantime, Tony advised his followers to seek out the Chris-narrated 2009 documentary Good Hair.

Reactions to the Oscars slap have been plentiful, with several takes resulting in their own discourse due to swift criticism. In the days since the incident, Chris Rock has not made a public statement. Seconds after the televised slap on Sunday, he described the moment as “the greatest night in the history of television.”
