Google PlayDating Kanye West has its perks.
As pointed out by Page Six, the 44-year-old artist recently purchased an “extremely rare” Birkin bag for his new flame Chaney Jones. Sources tell the outlet Ye got the highly coveted Hermès piece from Privé Porter—a luxury bag specialists based in Miami. The bag, which Jones reportedly first requested, features silver metallic Chèvre leather with palladium hardware, and cost Ye a whopping $275,000.
Insiders say Ye connected with Jones via FaceTime on Tuesday to watch her receive the extravagant gift while she was in Houston. The Donda rapper reportedly copped the bag during Privé Porter’s pop-up event at Decentraland’s Metaverse Fashion Week 2022. Chaney is listed as the bag’s owner online.
A representative for Kanye has declined to comment at this time.
This isn’t the first time Ye has purchased a Birkin for one of his partners. In 2013, he gifted his estranged wife, Kim Kardashian, with a Birkin 40 bag that was customized with a George Condo painting. And, in celebration of Julia Fox’s 32nd birthday, Kanye surprised his ex-fling and four of her friends with Birkin 25s, all of which were sourced by Michelle Lovelace.
Fox spoke about the gift during a recent interview with the New York Times, admitting she only carried the piece for a few days before she had to put it back in its box.
“I don’t know if you know about owning a Birkin when you’re not a rich person, but it’s like the most anxiety-inducing thing ever,” Fox said. “You’re checking on the Birkin, making sure it’s still there, that it didn’t magically grow wings. It’s scary to have a Birkin. It’s a lot of pressure.”
