After four decades in Hollywood, Jim Carrey has revealed he’s considering retirement.

The 60-year-old actor shared the news in a new interview with Access Hollywood, saying he’s “fairly serious” about stepping away from the spotlight.

“Well, I’m retiring,” Carrey said when asked about plans for his next film. “Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious.”

Pressed by host Kit Hoover as to whether he’s serious, Carrey replied, “It depends if the angels bring some sort of script that’s, you know, written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see. I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”

The Hollywood legend went on to express his desire to continue living his “quiet life.”

“I really like my quiet life, and I really love putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life, and I feel like—and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists—I have enough,” he said. “I’ve done enough. I am enough.”

Despite his retirement plans, Carrey insisted he has no plans to steer too far away from his public life. “I’m going to continue to be in the world, no matter what,” he explained. “We have more of an effect on the world than we know. We don’t have to be multi-hyphenates to affect the world.”

Carrey’s latest movie Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hits theaters on April 8. Check out the latest trailer for the Paramount film below, and head here to hear his mixed take on Paul Dano’s new Riddler in The Batman.
