Remedy Entertainment will collaborate with Rockstar Games as part of a “new development agreement” on a remake of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, The Verge reports.

“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser said in a press release. “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

The New Max Payne 1&2 Project, as it is being called, will involve Remedy taking care of the development side and Rockstar handling the financing of the project. The release notes that these remakes are “currently in the concept development stage.”

Both parties were behind the original Max Payne, which was released in 2001, and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne that came out two years later, but Rockstar branched off on its own to develop the third installment.

Remedy’s agreement with Rockstar comes after the long-awaited sequel to Alan Wick was officially announced at The Game Awards 2021 in December, along with a trailer. The original game was released over a decade ago. Remedy Entertainment creative director Sam Lake mentioned in a post on PlayStation Blog that he considered Alan Wick to be an action game despite containing horror elements. The follow-up will be the developer’s first entry into the survival horror genre.
