Tyre Sampson Family Says YK Osiris Used Death for Clout, Never Paid for Funeral Costs

YK Osiris has been accused of exploiting the death of Tyre Sampson, the 14-year-old boy who died after falling from an amusement park ride in Orlando.

“If anybody knows his family, tell them to DM me because I want to pay for his funeral cost,” Osiris wrote on Instagram, shortly after the tragedy.

The Jacksonville artist later told TMZ he was in contact with Tyre’s family and was still interested in covering the teen’s funeral expenses; but just hours after Tyre was laid to rest Saturday, his brother took to Facebook claiming Osiris never came through with a donation and was simply using the tragedy to gain clout.

“YkOsiri or whatever dude name is cancelled. Used lil bro for pure clout,” the post read. “Didn’t pay a dime but told the world otherwise. Even posted a fake screenshot of a GoFundMe donation. Stop pretending you about giving back to the community just to get your sales up. Lame as hell.”

As pointed out by Hollywood Unlocked, Tyre’s mother, Nekia Dodd, responded to the post by claiming Osiris had blocked her on Instagram.

Some Facebook users claimed Osiris had donated $15,000 to a GoFundMe set up by Tyre’s mom. The teen’s brother, who goes by Jrocc Jr on social media, insisted that wasn’t the case, and claimed a screenshot of Osiris’ purported donation was fake.

“I’m not even gone argue about it,” Jrocc Jr wrote. “Top donation is $500 as shown. We didn’t ask, [Osiris] volunteered. Stop lying to these people. He used my bro for clout.. thas that.”

Osiris has not publicly addressed the family’s claims.

Tyre died on March 24 after falling from the Free Fall ride at the ICON amusement park. The teen was reportedly 6 feet, 5 inches tall and over 300 pounds, putting him over the maximum weight requirement for the ride. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

“We think this was completely preventable,” said famed attorney Ben Crump, who’s representing the Sampson family. “… Other than George Floyd’s tragic torture video, I think that this is the worst tragedy captured on video that I’ve ever seen.”

Osiris isn’t the only person who has been accused of using Tyre’s death for clout. A woman who identified herself as “Shay Johnson” gave multiple press interviews demanding justice for Tyre, whom she claimed was her cousin; however, the Sampson family later confirmed they never met the woman. Florida authorities later identified the woman as Lewishena Browning—an Orlando resident with no apparent ties to Tyre.
