Margot Robbie is set to reunite with Bombshell director Jay Roach for an Ocean’s Eleven prequel.

Per the Hollywood Reporter, the Australian actress will star and produce a new Ocean’s film at Warner Bros. while Roach will produce and direct. Carrie Solomon has penned the script, which is said to be an original story set in ‘60s Europe. That would bring it time period-wise more in line with the 1960 Rat Pack film Ocean’s 11, which inspired the 2001 remake starring George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Brad Pitt.

The project has not been greenlit yet, but development is ongoing and it could enter production as soon as spring 2023. Roach and Robbie previously teamed-up for 2019’s Bombshell, which ultimately earned Robbie a Best Supporting Actress nomination. In the past, Roach was mostly known for his comedy movies, including the Austin Powers trilogy, Meet the Parents, and its sequel, Meet the Fockers.

Warner last tapped into the Ocean’s franchise for its 2018 female-led spin-off Ocean’s 8, which starred Sandra Bullock as the sister of George Clooney’s character, Danny Ocean. That film grossed $297 million worldwide on a budget of $70 million, and received mostly positive reviews. The new film seemingly won’t be connected to either the spin-off or the Clooney-led trilogy, but Robbie will presumably be joined by an ensemble cast if the basic Ocean’s blueprint is stuck to.

Robbie has plenty of major projects on the horizon, including David O. Russell’s star-studded Amsterdam, Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Later this year she will also star opposite Brad Pitt and Tobey Maguire in Babylon, the latest from La La Land and Whiplash director Damien Chazelle.
