‘Joker’ Director Todd Phillips Confirms Sequel ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ Is in the Works With Joaquin Phoenix

Director Todd Phillips took to Instagram on Tuesday to confirm that a sequel to 2019’s Joker is in the works.

Alongside a picture of the cover of the script, Phillips revealed the working title of the film Joker 2: Folie à Deux, a French term that translates into English as “folly of two” or “madness of two.” Phillips also posted a photo of Joaquin Phoenix reading through the script.

Released in October 2019, Joker grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, earning 12 Oscar nominations, including for best picture, best director for Phillips, and best adapted screenplay for Phillips and Silver. Phoenix took home the Oscar for best actor.
