A Florida 10-year-old who’s alleged to have shot and killed a woman who was in an argument with her mother was arrested on Tuesday.

As previously reported, the Orlando shooting on May 30 was preceded by an altercation involving two women, 41-year-old Lashun Rodgers and 31-year-old Lakrisha Isaac. In initial reports at the time, including from WKMG-TV, it was alleged that Isaac was intoxicated at the time she and Rodgers ultimately got into a “physical fight.”

Prior to allegedly punching Rodgers, Isaac is accused of having handed her bag to her daughter. After Isaac was allegedly struck by Rodgers, the daughter is said to have pulled a gun from the bag and fired. Rodgers died at a nearby hospital.

Isaac was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges including manslaughter by culpable negligence, child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and aggravated assault with a firearm. This week, per NBC News, the child was arrested and is now in custody at a local juvenile detention facility.

When reached for comment by Complex on Wednesday, a rep with the Orlando Police Department confirmed the new arrest in the case, saying the child was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. As for whether the child is formally facing such charges, however, that actually remains to be seen.

“Our office has started the process of reviewing this case and will consider all of the facts, including the age of the child, and all of the surrounding circumstances, when making a charging decision,” Monique H. Worrell, the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Florida, said in a statement shared Tuesday. “We want to be clear in stating that no charging decision has been made by our office. However, we anticipate that whatever charges we eventually file, if any, will ensure she receives the interventions necessary to address her behavior, help her change and grow, and ensure the public’s safety going forward.”

Calling the case “one of the most tragic” she’s seen in her career, Worrell also urged the public to keep in mind the fact that this is a child, not an adult.

“This shooting is an unimaginable tragedy that defies easy solutions,” Worrell said.
