Pete Davidson says it’s his “dream” to one day become a father.

In a new interview with Kevin Hart, whose Hart to Heart premieres its new season on Peacock this week, Davidson reflected on his childhood and how it cultivated a love of family life.

“My childhood was not great,” Davidson said, referencing the death of his father, a firefighter who died on 9/11. “It was, you know, dad passed early, you know, single mom, new sister just, like, did not handle it great.”

As Davidson explained, this created a “fucking nightmare” for his family at the time, although he received love and support, including in his pursuit of becoming a comedian.

“So, like, my family was just great the whole time,” he told Hart. “They were really, they were supportive of me trying stand-up because they were like, ‘Whatever makes you happy.’ So [I’m] definitely a family guy. My favorite thing ever—which I’ve yet to achieve—is I wanna have a kid. That’s, like, my dream.”

Joking that this desire is “super corny,” Davidson continued by pointing out how enjoyable the experience would be and how he’s preparing for it.

“It would be so fun to dress up a little dude, you know. … I’m so excited for, like, that chapter,” he said. “So, like, that’s kinda what I’m just preparing for now is trying to be, like, as good of a dude and develop and get better so when that happens it’s just easier.”

Hart then briefly spoke about their respective childhood traumas, with Davidson—who’s currently dating Kim Kardashian—asserting that these difficulties can uniquely propel a person, much like it did for both of them.

“If everything was all peachy at home, Kevin, you wouldn’t be here,” Davidson said. “I tell my friends that all the time. I’m like, ‘If everything in my childhood was fine, I’d probably be a construction worker in Staten Island and be the happiest guy ever.’ But that weird shit that it does to you made me love comedy.”

See more up top. The new season of Hart to Heart premieres July 14 on Peacock.

This week also saw the unveiling of a new trailer for Bodies Bodies Bodies, a new A24 slasher from director Halina Reijn featuring Davidson among the Amandla Stenberg-led cast. See that here.
