Nearly 70 years after the 1955 lynching of 14-year-old Emmett Till, MGM has released the official trailer for its forthcoming biopic about Emmett’s mother Mamie Till-Mobley’s fight for justice after her son’s killing.

In August 1955, Till was accused of making improper advances toward a white woman, Carolyn Bryant Donham, while at a market in Mississippi. The 14-year-old Chicago teen, who was visiting family in the Mississippi Delta region, was subsequently kidnapped, tortured, and killed by a group of white men. Till’s case would go on to galvanize the Civil Rights Movement.

Scheduled to hit select theaters on Oct. 14, followed by a nationwide release on Oct. 28, Till stars Danielle Deadwyler (The Harder They Fall) as Till’s mother. “The lynching of my son has shown me that what happens to any of us anywhere in the world had better be the business of us all,” she tells a crowd in the trailer.

The film was directed by Chinonye Chukwu (Clemency), and was co-written by Chukwu, along with Michael Reilly and Keith Beauchamp.

Till, which will premiere at the New York Film Festival, features an ensemble cast that includes Whoopi Goldberg, Frankie Faison, Jalyn Hall, Jayme Lawson, Kevin Carroll, Tosin Cole, Sean Patrick Thomas, John Douglas Thompson, Roger Guenveur Smith, and Haley Bennett.

“I’m incredibly proud and excited to premiere my film Till at the 60th New York Film Festival. As a filmmaker, to be embraced by NYFF for this particular feature and to have the opportunity to screen Till for youth nationwide is exhilarating,” Chukwu said, per Variety.
