Big Sean’s 4th Annual DON Weekend Schedule Announced

Big Sean and the Sean Anderson Foundation have announced the schedule for the 4^th annual DON Weekend slated for later this month. 

The festivities kick off on Thursday, Aug. 25 with the premiere of the Kristian R. Hill-directed documentary God Said Give ’Em Drum Machines, which focuses on how the city of Detroit played a pivotal role in the creation and development of techno music and helped the genre turn into what know today as EDM. 

The following day, the DON Awards will be held. The intimate ceremony serves as an extension of what DON (Detroit’s On Now) Weekend is all about: celebrating the people and communities in the city Big Sean calls home. The categories pay homage to the rapper’s songs, with the “Don Life” Award given to the nonprofit of the year, the rising youth star of the year receiving the “One (Wo)Man Can Change the World” Award, and the “Marvin & Chardonnay” Award going to the restaurant of the year. 

A block party will take place on Saturday, along with DON Talks. Some of the panel conversations include Black Men in Fashion, The Healing Discussion, Creative Fund Talk & Workshop, and Helping Children Find their Passion and Achieve their Goals. The block party will feature carnival games, derby races, youth kickball, an e-gaming tournament, and more.  

Big Sean will also make an announcement about the third Sean Anderson Foundation Content & Production Music Studio bound for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan: Highland Park Campus. “After playing one of my all-time favorite shows at Detroit’s Mo Pop Festival a couple weeks ago, I can’t wait to return to the city and feel its incredible energy,” he said. “I’m constantly inspired by Detroit and the city’s beautiful people. It’s a blessing to be able to give back to the city that made me.”

Sean is going all out for his city and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
