An Emmy-nominated New York City meteorologist, known for his recent work as part of the Spectrum News NY1 team, is taking action after being fired over leaked nude screenshots from an adult webcam site.

In an extended statement shared to Instagram on Monday, Erick Adame—who says he was initially suspended and later terminated—explained that the nude appearance question was indeed “100 percent consensual.” He also apologized to his former fellow Spectrum team members.

“I am taking this opportunity to share my truth rather than let others control the narrative of my life,” Adame said. Deeper into the statement, he took a firm stance against attaching any shame to his actions, noting that his apology does not extend to the nuanced reality of what happened.

“But, let me be clear about something: I don’t apologize for being openly gay or for being sex-positive—those are gifts and I have no shame about them,” he said.

A report from the Daily Beast adds that Adame has filed court documents calling for a judge to intervene by forcing the company running the adult site to reveal the identity of whoever shared the nude screenshots without his consent. Per those documents, available to read at this link, the anonymous individual in question operated under several different aliases and ultimately “wrongfully disseminated” the screenshots not only to Spectrum leadership, but to Adame’s mother as well.

“Anonymous did not have permission to take or share the intimate images of [Adame],” the court documents state.

Complex has reached out to Adame’s lawyer, as well as to a rep for Spectrum’s parent company Charter Communications. This post may be updated.
