Toronto Institution Randy’s Patties Returned For One Night at the Legacy Awards

Randy’s Patties, a beloved Toronto Jamaican patty restaurant that sadly closed earlier this year, made a surprise appearance at The Legacy Awards in Toronto last night.

Hosts Stephan James and Shamier Anderson mourned the closures of many patty restaurants in Toronto before honouring Randy’s Patties and stating its lasting impact on Toronto and its people. Then they stunned the crowd by bringing back Randy’s for one night only.

Randy’s Patties closed on Feb. 26 after opening in 1979. After the owners announced its closure, there was speculation that Drake would buy the establishment and give it new life. There have been no new developments since, only an update a day prior to its closing that the manager had heard rumours of a buyout but could not confirm anything.

Actors and siblings James and Anderson co-founded The Black Academy and created The Legacy Awards to celebrate and highlight the achievements of Black Canadians in arts, entertainment, and sports. The inaugural ceremony took place on Sunday with performances by Deborah Cox, Fefe Dobson, Izzy-S and more, and is available to watch on CBC Gem.
