Stephen “Twitch” Boss, perhaps best known for his work as a DJ and guest host on Ellen DeGeneres’ long-running talk show, has passed away. He was 40.

TMZ reports Boss died by suicide. Boss’ wife confirmed the news in a statement to People magazine.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us,” Boss’ wife, Allison Holker Boss, 34, said. “Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.”

“To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt,” she continued. “I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children.”

On Tuesday, Allison entered an LAPD station after Stephen left home without his car, which she said was unusual behavior on his part. Around 11:15 p.m. that night, police discovered Boss’ body in a Los Angeles hotel room. It appears he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Stephen and Allison tied the knot in Dec. 2013, as the former leaves behind their three children, Weslie, 14, Maddox, 6, and Zaia, 3.

Boss began his career in 2008 after finishing runner-up spot on So You Think You Can Dance. From there, Stephen appeared in several films including the Step Up movie franchise and Magic Mike XXL, before securing a role as Ellen’s DJ.
