Nicolas Cage Is the Perfect Dracula in Wild New Trailer for ‘Renfield’

It’s once again a day of jubilant celebration for Nicolas Cage enthusiasts, as the trailer for Universal’s upcoming Renfield has been released.

In the upcoming horror-comedy, directed by The Lego Batman Movie’s Chris McKay, Cage stars as none other than “the dark one” and “the lord of death” himself, Dracula. Leading the film is Nicholas Hoult, who plays Dracula’s embattled servant Renfield.

The trailer opens with Hoult’s character storming into a support group meeting, frantically revealing that he needs to “get out of a toxic relationship.” The ensuing moments reveal that the toxic situation in question, of course, relates directly to his dicey Dracula duties.

Renfield is out on April 14 and also stars Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, and Adrian Martinez. See the new trailer up top via Universal Pictures.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW

As fellow Cageheads will note, the Oscar-winning actor previously dealt with vampirical matters in the 1988 cult classic Vampire’s Kiss.

Cage, though always prolific, has been on one hell of a tear as of late. Among his recent critical hits are the Independent Spirit Award-winning Pig and the thrillingly meta The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent with Pedro Pascal and Tiffany Haddish. In August of last year, Deadline shared an exclusive revealing that Cage would soon be starring in an A24 comedy by the name of Dream Scenario, producers of which include Midsommar and Hereditary director Ari Aster.

More recently, Cage has expressed interest in starring in a musical, telling Empire magazine in December the genre was something he’d “like to try.” Here’s to hoping someone, somewhere, can make that happen and make it happen swiftly.
