Raven-Symoné Says We’ve Been Pronouncing Her Name Wrong

We have all been collectively mispronouncing Raven-Symoné’s name.

The actress took to TikTok on Thursday to share that her name is said differently than most thought. In a video, the 37-year-old wrote over the clip, “Yo, that’s Raven-Symoné.”

More words flash over the video: “It’s pronounced See-mon-ye.” While the audio is silent at first, a voice can be heard saying, “Shut up, it is not.” She then mouths “yes it is” over the audio. “No it’s not,” the audio repeats, to which she mouths, again, “Yes it is.”

This was a surprising revelation to fans because Raven herself has been pronouncing her name like “Raven Sim-moan.” In commercials for the Disney Channel, she pronounces it without an accent. Fans commented on the TikTok and pointed this out. “Why are you just telling us now?” wrote one user. Another let her know that she “let this slide for too long.” Many showed support and others joked around, with one person humorously asking, “How you just gone ruin our childhood like this?”
