Vandalism Spree In Toronto Leaves Multiple Mailboxes Out of Service

A vandalism spree in Toronto has left multiple mailboxes out of service, Canada Post says.

According to the Canadian Press, Canada Post explained that a “rapid and unprecedented increase in vandalism” to its street-level mailboxes led to the Crown corporation wrapping them in plastic to ensure no one would drop any mail off in a decommissioned letterbox.

Canada Post says it will attempt to repair and replace the vandalized mailboxes, while also working with Toronto police and local authorities to investigate the incidents. It will look into its “street equipment” to see how it can improve the security of its mailboxes.

The Canadian Press received an email from spokesperson Lisa Liu which iterated Canada Post’s apology for the inconvenience and expressed hope that the mailboxes would be back in order “shortly.”

In lieu of taking mail to a mailbox, Canada Post is encouraging senders to make their way to their local post office.
