Google PlayThe first domino in Ryan Reynolds’ quest to purchase the Ottawa Senators may have fallen, as T-Mobile is set to acquire Ka’ena Corporation, the parent company of the Reynolds-owned Mint Mobile for $1.35 billion.
In a video Reynolds posted to Twitter, T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert told Reynolds he was happy to have him join the T-Mobile family, but the Deadpool actor laughed him off.
“Well, I wouldn’t call it a family, Mike,” Reynolds said. “A family is a place for misdirected hopes and dreams. I’m hoping this will be much better than that.”
Sievert then assured its users that nothing will change under the new regime, but Reynolds, of course, had more jokes up his sleeve.
“And T-Mobile has assured me that our incredibly improvised, and borderline reckless messaging strategy will also remain untouched,” Reynolds said before drawing a suspicious look from Sievert.
Hockey media in Ottawa immediately took to the news. “Big time. Let’s go!!!” TSN 1200 host Shawn Simpson said when asked if Reynolds could be freeing up capital to buy the Sens.
Postmedia Senators reporter Bruce Garrioch also called the sale a “big move.”
Back in November, Reynolds confirmed his interest in purchasing the hockey team, but stated he needed “a sugar mommy or a sugar daddy.”
