Report: Trump Could Be Facing RICO Charges in Georgia Over 2020 Election

Speculation is high that former president Donald Trump could be facing possible RICO charges in Georgia.

The latest on this front comes from a CNN piece published Monday and citing sources close to the situation in Georgia, specifically state-focused efforts from the former POTUS and failed steak salesman aimed at overturning the results of the 2020 election.

According to the report, “racketeering and conspiracy charges” are on the table due to evidence showing an alleged conspiracy from both “inside and outside” Georgia. Evidence is said to include phone conversations, emails, texts, and more. As of now, the expectation is that a final call on such charges could be made by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis as soon as this spring.

Complex has reached out to multiple reps for Willis for comment on this matter. This story may be updated.

Of course, this isn’t the first talk of RICO surrounding Trump in the Georgia probe. It’s also far from the first time Willis would have taken the RICO path in her state role. Earlier this month, for example, Insider gathered up a bunch of expert opinions to determine the likelihood of Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) Act being used against Trump.

As for Willis, she’s received extensive news coverage in connection with her use of RICO in multiple cases, including the YSL case involving Young Thug. During a news conference last year, Willis called herself “a fan of RICO,” then elaborated on why.

“The reason that I am a fan of RICO is that I think jurors are very, very intelligent,” Willis said at the time. “Some people don’t want to do jury service but once they get there we really find that there are good citizens there. They’re very smart, they pay attention, they take these matters seriously. But they wanna know the whole story. They wanna know what happened. They wanna make an accurate decision about someone’s life. So RICO is a tool that allows a prosecutor’s office and law enforcement to tell the whole story.”

Meanwhile, Trump is also facing a possible indictment in New York in connection with a payment he made to Stormy Daniels. In response to Twitter commentary spurred by Trump’s own comments about the New York case, Daniels joked that he is prone to typos due to “slippery fingers from lube and KFC.”
