Ryan Coogler appears to be in the running to reboot Fox’s hit series X-Files.

As reported by the Verge, X-Files creator Chris Carter recently teased Coogler’s involvement during an episode of CBC’s On the Coast podcast.

“I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast,” Carter shared. “So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.”

While the news hasn’t been confirmed, if anyone has an inside track on what’s going on, it would likely be Coogler.

This isn’t the first time an X-Files reboot has been teased. Back in August 2020, Carter hinted at an animated adaptation of the series, which ran for nine seasons on Fox (1993-02). Titled The X-Files: Albuquerque, the potential series received a script commitment from Fox, though the network has yet to greenlight the remake.

Meanwhile, during an interview last December, X-Files star David Duchovny shared his thoughts on a potential reboot of the sci-fi series.

“For me, it was always there’s no show unless it’s Chris and Gillian, so I don’t know,” Duchovny told ComicBook.com, referring to X-Files creator Chris Carter. “Personally, for me, the X-Files that I’m involved in consists of Chris Carter, myself, and Gillian, so I haven’t spent time trying to think about a different version of that, and I don’t know that I will.”

After making his feature-length debut in 2013 with the independent film Fruitvale Station, Coogler has catapulted into the mainstream on the strength of 2015’s Creed, 2018’s Black Panther, and 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
