Google PlayRyan Reynolds and the Remington Group are no longer in the running to purchase the Ottawa Senators.
According to ESPN, they bowed out from the race after they were denied a 30-day window with Galatioto Sports Partners (GSP) to work on buying both the team and its rink, the Canadian Tire Centre. Their plan was to move the Senators from its current location to Ottawa’s downtown where the team would eventually get a new arena.
A tweet from Postmedia reporter Bruce Garrioch claimed that GSP and the team’s board of directors denied the Remington Group’s demands and wanted them to wait until the May 15 deadline so they can see what other offers were on the table.
With Reynolds officially out of the running, two more celebrity-involved groups are hoping to purchase the Senators.
Snoop Dogg wants a chance to market hockey to minority communities while The Weeknd has also thrown his name in the ring, giving him a local angle to work with.
The deadline to place a bid on the team is just three days away so it won’t be long before we hear more about a potential new owner.
