“I’m Just Built Different” Twitter’s out there mad now…
One of the more popular, and insipid, topics on social media is the fictional “dinner with JAY-Z, or *insert amount of money here*” argument. Weirdos on the various platforms (which I say with all due disrespect) will tell you that they’ll eschew the literal life-changing financial offer for 15 minutes with Shawn Corey Carter, which has made zero sense to me.
Now, I’m not disrespecting Jay and/or whatever life knowledge he may possess at all, and what he tells me would probably help me… but I’m not saying, and will never say, “no” to free money. Ever.
And, apparently, JAY-Z feels the exact same way.
Sitting down with Gayle King on CBS Mornings for both an interview and tour of “The Book of HOV” exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library (which I need to check out again, before it wraps up), he offered his own thoughts on that online debate.
“You’ve gotta take the money,” JAY-Z said, while adding that everything someone can learn from him over a meal is already available in his music and lyrics. “You’ve got all that in the music for $10.99. That’s a bad deal, I wouldn’t tell you to cut a bad deal.
“Take the $500,000, go buy some albums, listen to the albums. It’s all there. If you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, for what it is, it’s all there,” he continued. “Everything that I said was gonna happen, happened. Everything I said I wanted to do, I’ve done. And there’s the blueprint. The blueprint, literally, to me and my life and my journey, is there already.”
Like, duh. If the man himself said he would take the money, stop trying to impress strangers on the Internet by saying you wouldn’t.
