Multiple People Shot After Argument About Gifts at Pennsylvania Baby Shower

Multiple attendees of a baby shower in western Pennsylvania were injured in a shooting that was allegedly preceded by an argument about gifts, local authorities said this weekend.

Speaking with local outlet KDKA-TV, Lower Burrell Police Chief John Marhefka said that 25-year-old Isiah Hampton—the alleged shooter—was arrested following the incident. The victims have not been identified aside from being described in the report as a 23-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old boy.

The shower in question was held Saturday evening at the Kinloch Volunteer Fire Department. In a statement, the Lower Burrell Police Department said they were dispatched to the location for a report of an “active shooter inside the firehall.” A preliminary investigation is said to have shown that this was actually a “family argument” that turned physical when the suspect brandished a 9mm semiautomatic handgun. The argument itself, at least according to current reports, is said to have originally centered on whether the suspect would transport gifts from the shower.

“The suspect was taken into custody without incident,” a police rep said. “However, this was not an active shooter situation but rather an isolated family incident during a baby shower.” According to the latest update, all three shooting victims are expected to survive.

Hampton—who is said to be the father of the soon-to-arrive baby—has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, as well as a single count of recklessly endangering another person. A preliminary arraignment took place on Sunday, per court documents.
