Man Discovers Squirrel Stashed 42 Gallons of Nuts in His Truck

A North Dakota man discovered thousands of black walnuts stashed throughout his truck by a squirrel seemingly preparing for the upcoming winter, Local 12 WKRC-TV reports.  

Bill Fischer’s Chevy Avalanche is parked next to a black walnut tree in the yard of his home, making it the most convenient spot for a red squirrel to hoard the small lemon-sized nuts. “A lot of places, in the radiator fan, all the way through here, that corner has been covered full with walnuts,” Fischer said. “It was planning on camping there for the winter.” 

Fischer is certain that just one squirrel pulled off this entire operation, which spanned a few days and resulted in 42 gallons of black walnuts being stored in every corner and crevice of his truck. “I had to pull the fenders off and clean out all the walnuts out, and thought I had them all and took it down the road, turned the corner and found one rolling inside the windshield where the wipers go,” he said.

Despite already removing an absurd amount of black walnuts, Fischer is certain that there are still a few he hasn’t found yet, saying, “I have some rolling around the frame rails wells as well, that I can’t get at.” As for the squirrel, it’s unfortunately back to square one.
