Disney+ Announces Premiere Date for ‘The Book of Boba Fett’

Disney+ revealed Wednesday that The Book of Boba Fett will premiere on the streaming service on December 29. 

According to Variety, The Book of Boba Fett finds “legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand are navigating the Galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate.”

Temuera Morrison will be reprising his role as Boba Fett, with Ming-Na Wen returning to play Fennec Shand. Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Colin Wilson, and Kathleen Kennedy, all of whom served as executive producers on The Mandalorian, will carry that same title for this series, in addition to Robert Rodriguez, who directed “Chapter 14: The Tragedy” in Season 2. 

Boba Fett first appeared in the aforementioned “Tragedy” episode of The Mandalorian. In the Season 2 finale post-credits scene—spoiler alert—Boba returns to Tatooine with Fennec, walks into Jabba’s Palace, and kills to Bib Fortuna to reclaim the throne. The series title is suddenly revealed, along with a release date for “December of 2021.” 

Favreau explained on Good Morning America last December that The Book of Boba Fett will be set in the same timeline as The Mandalorian, and announced that once production on the Boba series has concluded, the team will soon after jump into making Season 3 of Mandalorian.
