La La Anthony spoke about her divorce with Carmelo Anthony for the first time.
In a new interview on The Angie Martinez Show, the actress opened up about her relationship with the 10-time NBA All-Star, who La La filed for divorce in June following an 11-year marriage.
“It’s been years now since then,” La La said. “To a lot of people, it feels like this single thing is new. It’s been years now that we’ve separated, so I’ve dealt with the emotions behind it. I still have my moments, but for the most part, I can talk about it now and laugh about it and find the humor in it all. Otherwise, I’d be a basket case. I already went through that part.”
La La also elaborated on her emotional state throughout the divorce, which she said “got bad” due to “allegations” and it being such a public matter. She said “that sh*t hit me really hard” and that it “came out of nowhere.”
“I wasn’t expecting it,” La La explained. “Even a lawyer said once, ‘Well, he’s a basketball player—what did you expect?’ And I’m like, ‘To be honest, I didn’t expect that. I didn’t go into this marriage expecting that. So I was caught off guard.”
Still, the pair are on good terms, as they continue to raise their 14-year-old son Kiyan while making sure there’s “no drama between us.”
