Next month, November 26, beloved radio host, TV presenter and actor Reggie Yates will make his directorial debut with Pirates, a new film set against the backdrop of the garage scene and pirate radio at the turn of the millennium.
The new film, which Yates also wrote, stars relative newcomers Elliot Edusah (1917, Small Axe), Jordan Peters (Blue Story, Gangs Of London) and Reda Elazouar (Outside The Wire) in the leading roles as three best mates, Cappo, Two Tonne and Kidda. It’s classic coming-of-age territory, following three mates trying to break into the music scene as they journey all over London to try and track down the last remaining tickets to the ultimate millennium party—and hopefully get some dates along the way.
For anyone who was there, it looks set to be a rush of nostalgia; from Avirex jackets, Moschino fits, Nokia 3310s, Alize… it’s all been packed in to the new film. Perhaps even more importantly, judging from the trailer, it sounds as if it’s going to have a belting soundtrack of garage anthems to go with it.
