21-year-old New Jersey man Jason Vicari has been arrested after he allegedly killed his grandfather and claimed god told him to do it.

Per North Jersey, the Wyckoff, NJ man reportedly murdered his 81-year-old grandfather Ronald Vicari with an ax. A relative of the two men called police on Tuesday morning and said the younger Vicari had barricaded himself inside Ronald’s home on Beechwood Avenue in Elmwood Park. At the time of the call, the relative said Jason was in possession of a handgun, and Ronald was lying on the floor of the bathroom with a head wound. The relative added that the window to the bathroom had been broken.

After Elmwood Park Police and Bergen County Regional SWAT Team arrived at the scene, Jason agreed to speak with the authorities. He was asked by officers if there was anyone else present in the home, and the police report claims he told them, “Not anyone alive.” That same report said that Vicari, unprompted, told officers, “God told me to do it.”

Authorities discovered Ronald dead inside the home, with the head of the ax next to his body. “Mr. Jason Vicari uttered that he believed his grandfather was a monster and that God told him he would have to change his religion,” the arrest report read.

Vicari was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and two weapons possessions offenses.
