Here’s Your First Look at ‘Bust Down,’ Peacock’s Hilariously Absurd ‘Show About Nonsense’

If you’ve not lived it, you wouldn’t understand, but the struggle to make it from the seemingly dead-end middle is real, and if you can’t laugh at it, you’ll lose it. That’s a fraction of what the upcoming Peacock Original Bust Down, which is created by and stars Sam Jay (PAUSE with Sam Jay), Chris Redd (SNL, Kenan), Langston Kerman (Insecure, The Boys), and Jak Knight (Big Mouth, Black-ish), is going for. It’s also going for downright “absurdity” as the foursome say in a statement regarding its left-field teaser, which you can check out above.

“We wanted the Bust Down teaser to reflect the absurdity of the show,” they say about the series, which premieres on March 10, 2022. “This isn’t about warming hearts or giving voice to the voiceless. Our show is about finding comedy in the unimportant. Each episode these four characters escape societal pressures to strive and excel by digging themselves further into a metaphorical hole, which led us to this concept.”

The series finds the four working at the Diamondback Casino in Gary, Indiana who, in an attempt to get out of their situation, end up getting on the wrong side of some casino bosses (and other assorted individuals), possibly why we see the foursome digging a big ass hole in the teaser. [Ed Note: And possibly why we see Gary’s Freddie Gibbs in the images below. Gibbs in a dark, absurd comedy looks like the move!]

“Bust Down is rooted in our friendship,” the Bust Down creators and stars say. “Every character is a hyperbolic version of how we see each other, and every story is inspired by the bad choices we each naturally make out in the world. There aren’t a lot of straight comedies right now where people truly go for jokes that are raunchy, irreverent, and complicated, and at its core that’s what Bust Down is all about.” Then they bring up an interesting point for the diversity in entertainment conversation. Peep game: “We believe true equality is being able to make a show about nonsense the same way white people have been doing forever. We just wanted to make something so fucking hilarious that it makes people laugh so much that they miss jokes and then have to circle back to watch again.” A-fucking-men. This is the kind of series we need, right now. Take your entire mind off of the timeline and sink into some Black absurdity.

With all of that information to sit on, run that Bust Down teaser once again, and then check out the first look images we have below. Keep it locked for more from Peacock and Bust Down before it premieres on March 10.
